Deerfield Presbyterian Church

Mission

In addition to mission sponsored by The Presbyterian Church (USA), the Deerfield Presbyterian Church also supports other mission, local and national.  Some of the organizations and projects that the Deerfield Presbyterian Church helps to support, either by funds, or volunteer hours, are listed below.

    ECHO

ECHO (Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization) is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian organization located on a demonstration farm in North Fort Myers, FL. They have been assisting a global network of missionaries and development workers since 1981 and are currently serving agricultural workers in 180 countries.

ECHO exists to help those working internationally with the poor be more effective, especially in the area of agriculture! They are a technical support organization helping community development organizations and workers do what they do.. . . . better! They do this through education and training, problem solving, and networking.  ECHO's mission . . . is "to network with community leaders in developing countries to seek hunger solutions for families growing food under difficult conditions."

Dr. Martin Price, ECHO's past Executive Director, was raised in the Deerfield Presbyterian Church congregation.  We are very proud of the accomplishments that he has made in fighting world hunger!

    Heifer International

Heifer International, working in partnership with others, alleviates hunger, poverty and environmental degradation by helping families become self-sufficient for good and income.  Since it began in 1944, Heifer has provided animals, training and technical assistance to more than 4 million low-income families in more than 125 countries.

Heifer provides more than 25 different kinds of food- and income-producing animals, as well as intensive training in animal husbandry, community development and ecologically-sound, sustainable methods for agriculture.

Heifer enables recipients to "pass on the gift" to others in their community in a way that enhances dignity and offers everyone the opportunity to make a difference in the struggle against hunger.

    Morgan County Habitat For Humanity

Morgan County Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.  Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization.  They build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter.  Since 1976, they have built more than 175, 000 houses, providing shelter for nearly 900,000 people worldwide. Now at work in 100 countries, they are building a house every 26 minutes. Local Habitat affiliates coordinate house building and select partner families.

2007 has been a busy year for Morgan County Habitat.  Their first home was dedicated, and work on a second home begun.   Deerfield PC has joined with McConnelsville First PC as a contributor to an Apostle's Build.

    Morgan County United Ministries

Deerfield Presbyterian Church is a covenant church with Morgan County United Ministries.  MCUM (pronounced mack-um) is a cooperative ministry of various churches and Christian denominations throughout Morgan County, Ohio.  Established in 1981, MCUM is a vital and growing nondenominational collaborative-outreach ministry providing leadership, resources, and support.  The Ministry Center is located at 20 Fourth Street in Malta, and houses the Jesus Loves You Thrift Shop and Manna Harvest Food Pantry.  MCUM also hosts several programs each year to meet specific needs such as the Shoe-A-Child drive, School Supply distribution, Christmas Toy Distribution, and Seeds-For-Life campaign.  Work camps are available to help those in need with painting, repairs, and yard work during the summer months.

MCUM depends upon local congregations and volunteers for prayer, financial donations, food, clothing and houseware items for distribution.  If you wish to volunteer for any of the outreach programs or if you have donations, please call the ministry center at 962-2679, or stop by 20 Fourth Street in Malta.  MCUM's mailing address is P.O. Box 303, McConnelsville, Ohio 43756.

    Morgan County Victims/Witness Advocate

Victims of violent crime are often times in need of help, sometimes to escape to a place of safety, other times to receive counseling.  We have all been victims at one time or another.  Morgan County Victims/Witness Advocate is a source of help and support for the Morgan County victim and/or witness.

    92.7 The River

Changing Lives Together is the motto of 92.7 The River.  Deerfield Presbyterian Church, as well as several members individually, helped support this radio station in the past years.  Their message and music are uplifting and encouraging.

    Other Mission

Each year Deerfield PC helps support one or two mission trips.  During 2007 we helped support the Hobe Sound Bible Church "Touching Lives For Christ" Eastern Europe Mission Trip.
